SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team continued its best-ever home start with a seventh consecutive home victory, 84-74 over Concordia Irvine.
Taylor Donnot powered the Penguins (12-5/8-2 PacWest) with a career-high 28 points. The junior guard was unstoppable with layups and pull-up jumpers alike.
Allyssa Weatherd bolstered a solid week of play with 19 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Sandra Ikeora tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, plus two blocks and two steals.
CUI (2-13/1-9 PacWest) had five players in double digits and was led by Zoe Goss' 16 points off the bench.
Dominican used a 25-13 third quarter to take control. Weatherd started the second half with a pair of free throws and back-to-back buckets from Donnot made it a 10-point ballgame a minute and a half into the half. Two more Donnot buckets made it a 14-point ballgame and a three-pointer finished the third quarter and gave Dominican a 16-point lead.
However, the newest member of the PacWest didn't go quietly. CUI tied the game in the fourth quarter with a 16-0 run to begin the frame. Ikeora drew a foul with 7:02 to go and stopped the bleeding with a free throw. The Penguins would not trail again.
The newest member of the PacWest gave the Penguins trouble early. Dominican gave up the first four points of the game before taking an eight-point lead and led by six, 24-18, after a quarter. The Eagles outscored Dominican by two points in the second quarter. Dominican shot 35.1 percent (13-of-37) in the first half but halfway through still led, 37-33.
The Penguins continue the quick two-game homestand on Monday. The Penguins will be tested by first-place Azusa Pacific at 5:30 p.m. Live stats and pay-per-view video will be available at
