SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California womens' soccer team won its second match to improve to 2-1 in PacWest action with a 1-0 victory over visiting Holy Names on Tuesday.
Freshman
Lily Dubuc's first career goal in the 65th minute was the difference. Dominican played off a counter, on the left side of the field, where reigning PacWest Player of the Week
Mariah Meza passed to a streaking Dubuc through the HNU defense. Dubuc finished from five yards out to the back post.
Both teams were evenly matched on paper. Both teams had 12 shots, each with five in the first half and seven in the second half. Nine of Dominican's shots were on goal while the Hawks had seven. Dominican also held a 3-1 corner kick advantage.
Freshman
Gabriella Tassano earned her second victory with seven saves.
Between the two schools wearing gold shoelaces in the match and donations taken throughout the day, nearly $1,000 was raised for Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer®, an initiative of Go4TheGoal®. The charity's goal is to raise awareness and funding for the fight against pediatric cancer. All funds stay in the community where they are raised to support local children, with the funds from this match benefitting UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.
