SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team allowed a goal in each half and dropped its final non-conference tuneup, 2-0, at UC Santa Cruz.
The Division III Banana Slugs struck in the 14th minute on an unassisted goal from 10 yards out by Samuel Horton. UC Santa Cruz doubled its lead in the 64th minute with a five-yard goal by Brandon Flores.
Dominican (0-4-0) had plenty of opportunites and outshot the Banana Slugs (3-2-2) 19 to 11, and 7 to 6 shots on goal. Seventeen of those shots came from starters with a pair of shots on goal form reserves
Garrett Blodgett and
Gabriel Crosetti. Freshmen starters Micah Also and
Connor Murphy each attempted a pair of shots on goal, and sophomore
Martin Gonzalez added one.
Senior
Patrick Rabbitt played the first half and allowed one goal with three saves. Freshman
Christian Lathrop played the second half and allowed the second goal. Connor Anderson made seven saves for UC Santa Cruz.
Dominican will begin PacWest play on Thursday, Sept. 24 versus the newest member of the PacWest, Concordia Irvine. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. on Kennelly Field, before the women's match. Live stats and video will be available at
