SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team made some big defensive stops and had scoring opportunities but a goal in the 89th minute gave visiting Northwest Nazarene a 1-0 non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon.
The Penguins (0-3-0) had their opportunities to score, four of which came in the first half. Sophomore
Martin Gonzalez and freshman
Micah Alo both had looks in the 24th minute but both shots were saved by NNU (3-1-0) goalkeeper Ryan Foo.
Roberto Macias had a look three minutes later and had his shot saved as well. Alo had another shot on goal in the 35th minute that was saved. Senior Josh Godoy attempted the Penguins' lone second-half shot in the 77th minute though it sailed wide right.
Senior goalkeeper
Patrick Rabbitt made two very good saves in the 85th minute before allowing the game-winner. NNU's
Erik Anderson had a left-footed shot to the upper v but Rabbitt dove to his left for the save, then made a save on Alex Mitrovic's header. However, the Dominican defense left Rabbitt exposed minutes later. The Penguins were unable to clear the corner kick and Abraham Placito's second touch scored off of the flick to him.
Dominican will next head to NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz (2-2-2) on Sunday, Sept. 20 for a 4 p.m. match.
