IRVINE, Calif. – The 2014-15 All-PacWest Men's Basketball teams were announced by the conference office Wednesday, selected by a vote of the conference's coaches. Dominican University of California's
Dominique Taplin was named PacWest Defender of the Year. Taplin was also named to the All-PacWest Second Team and
Matt Hayes was named to the All-PacWest Third Team.
Taplin was seventh in the PacWest in rebounding (7.2 rpg) and fourth in defensive board (158). He was also third in the PacWest in scoring (16.9 ppg), sixth in field goal percentage (.495), and second in minutes played (35.3 mpg). Taplin recorded three double-doubles, including 20 points and 18 rebounds against Chaminade, which set the Dominican Division II rebound record. He finishes his career with 1,086 points, having become the first Dominican player to reach the 1,000-point plateau in the DII era. He also holds the records for rebounds (458), free throws made (258), games started (67), and minutes (2,517). His 472 points, 161 field goals made, 113 free throws made, and 202 rebounds in 989 minutes this season alone set program single-season records in the DII era.
Hayes set a program record in the DII era with 75 three-pointers made this season and is already the program leader in the DII era with 174. Hayes averaged 15.1 points, 12th in the PacWest, and 5.5 rebounds per game, tied for 15th in the PacWest. He was fourth in the PacWest in three-pointers per game (2.7) and ninth in three-point shooting (37.7 percent). This season, Hayes set single-game marks in the Division II era in field goals attempted (343) and three-pointers made (75) and attempted (199). Standing at 900 career points, the junior is poised to pass Taplin as the all-time scoring leader in the DII era. Earlier in the season, he was named to the
Capital One Academic All-District 8 Basketball First Team.
