SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team received a double-double effort (10 kills, 14 digs) from sophomore
Shannon RiggioKerley but it wasn't enough in a four-set loss (25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16) to Chaminade on Monday night.
The Silverswords (15-6/8-5 PacWest) got the jump on the Penguins with an early 11-3 lead. That set the tone for the set one and the Penguins never pulled closer than six in the set. Dominican battled though and evened the match at 1-1 thanks to strong play from freshman
Kate Even, who recorded four of her 10 kills in the set, and Riggio-Kerley, who also had four kills in the set. Chaminade regained the lead thanks to an early 8-2 lead in set three and a 7-1 lead to begin set four doomed the Penguins.
Even, fellow freshman
Brittany Latigue, and Riggio-Kerley all finished their nights with 10 kills apiece.
Madeline Powelson also added 10 digs. Junior libero
Amanda Lee recorded 20 digs and maintained her lead in digs per set in the PacWest (5.83/set). The Penguins were without their top hitter,
Aimee Steinwand, for a second time since the sophomore suffered a concussion on Oct. 24 versus Dixie State.
Keani Passi had a match-leading 19 kills and Kim Spring added 17 kills on 46.7 percent hitting for Chaminade. Natashya Enos dished out 34 assists for the Silverswords and had a team-high 19 digs.
Dominican will continue its six-match homestand on Wednesday, Nov. 4 when BYU-Hawaii comes calling. The Penguins were swept in the two teams' first meeting back on Sept. 25 in Hawaii. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. in the Conlan Center. Live stats and video will be available at
