Penguins settle for tie with ART U

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team outshot Academy of Art 19-5 but settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie on Halloween.

Eight different Penguins (5-9-2/5-5-1 PacWest) placed shots on goal. Sophomore Mariah Meza's shot off of a cross freshman Lily Dubuc was the only Dominican shot to find the back of the net, settling into the bottom left corner of the net. Both Meza and Dubuc are tied for second in points (17) and third in goals (6) in the PacWest.

ART U (4-11-1/3-7-1 PacWest) scored on its fifth and final opportunity, a header from Brooke Stewart off of a pass from Laura Mick in the 83rd minute.

Neither team had another scoring opportunity in regulation. Dominican had a shot by senior Lauren Gollnick in overtime that sailed high. The Penguins had three corner kicks in second overtime but were unable to convert those opportunities. Junior Stephanie Pawek, who took the corners, followed the third attempt and had a shot that went wide. With time expiring sophomore Lina Miller booted a shot from the top of the circle. The shot sailed just high of the net and Dominican was forced to settle for the tie.

Dominican will host Point Loma on Thursday, Nov. 5 in the penultimate match of the season. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. followed by the mens' match at 2:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at dominicanathletics.com/live with live audio provided by radio.dominican.edu.
