LAIE, Hawaii — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team tied the match late but freshman
Lily Dubuc's goal wasn't enough as host BYU-Hawaii netted the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 96th minute in overtime.
The first 44 minutes of action went scoreless but a foul on Dominican with less than thirty seconds left in the first half set up a scoring opportunity for BYUH (5-6-2/4-3-1 PacWest). Natalie Reynolds played a ball into Natalie Lewis, whose header sent the Penguins into the locker room trailing 1-0.
After a couple of Penguins attacks in the second half, Dubuc netted the equalizer in the 83rd minute. Senior
Lauren Gollnick placed a corner kick into the box but had her strike deflected out by a Seasiders defender. However, the ball went right to Dubuc's feet and the freshman buried her fourth goal of the season to knot the match and force overtime despite three shots in the final five minutes of regulation by the Seasiders.
Freshman
Alyssa Campbell was whistled for a foul in the 96th minute and Reynolds scored on the ensuing penalty kick.
Dominican (4-9-1/4-5-0 PacWest) finishes the road trip at Chaminade (1-11-0/0-8-0 PacWest) on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m. (3 p.m. Pacific).
