Penguins slip to .500 in PacWest action with loss at HPU

WAIPIO, Hawaii — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team fell to 4-4 in PacWest action with a 3-1 loss to Hawai'i Pacific on Monday.

The loss marked the first time the Penguins (4-8-1/4-4-0 PacWest) had lost back-to-back matches since Sept. 24. Dominican was limited to seven shots with three shots on goal, all of which were attempted by reserves. Junior Melissa Stoakley took one and senior Kayla Karlsson took two. Karlsson's shot in the final minute of the match was the Penguins' lone goal and came off an assist from Lily Dubuc.

HPU (6-7-0/3-5-0) tallied a dozen shots with six on goal. The Sharks struck first in the 29th minute on a goal inside the box from Sara Romo.  Noelle Mercado made it 2-0 off of a cross in the 64th minute and Romo finished in the box in the 69th minute to give HPU a three-goal advantage.

Dominican will play its third match of the road trip on Thursday, Oct. 22 at BYU-Hawaii. First kick is slated for 12:30 p.m. in Hawaii.
