WAIPIO, Hawaii — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team saw its losing streak reach five in a 3-1 PacWest loss to Hawai'i Pacific on Monday.
Javier Risco Garcia put the third-place Sharks (7-4-1/5-2-1 PacWest) ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute on a los cross from Erik Kemsles to Jackson Groves into Garcia. Kemsies passed to Josch Cuerten, who scored from inside the box in the 33rd minute to make it 2-0 before the half. Sven Koenig scored from outside the box in the 61st minute to give the Sharks some cushion.
Dominican's
Cory Vanderpool netted his first goal of the season off of a penalty kick in the 83rd minute.
The Penguins were outshot 15-5 and 8-3 when it came to shots on goal. Junior

Chase Goulart were responsible for Dominican's other two shots on goal, both of which were attempted in the final ten minutes. HPU also held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
At 1-12-0 and 1-7-0 in PacWest play, the loss tumbled the Penguins into a tie for last place with Chaminade, which the Penguins will see in the final match of the trip. First, Dominican will play its third match of the road trip on Thursday, Oct. 22 at BYU-Hawaii. First kick is slated for 3 p.m. in Hawaii.
