HILO, Hawaii — Saturday's match at UH Hilo certainly did not go the way the Dominican University of California women's soccer team was hoping for in a 2-1 loss.
The Penguins (4-7-1/4-3-0 PacWest), looking to keep the momentum and in the hunt in the PacWest standings, played a scoreless first half with the Vulcans (4-4-3/3-4-0 PacWest).
Dominican struck first in the 60th minute on freshman
Lily Dubuc's third goal of the season. However, UH Hilo answered shortly after in the 65th minute on a goal from Abcde Zoller on the assist from Danika Steele. The Vulcans found the net back of the net for the game winner in the 83rd minute on a goal from Nicole Rascon.
The Penguins were also dealt a blow for their next match at Hawai'i Pacific on Monday, Oct. 19. Freshman
Keira Dagy was issued a yellow card in the 87th minute and a second yellow when she was caught on a counter attack in the final minute. Two yellow cards result in a red, meaning Dagy will have to sit out the Penguins' next match.
Senior
Lauren Gollnick and junior
Stephanie Pawek had Dominican's other two shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Gabriella Tassano made four saves in the loss.
The match versus Hawai'i Pacific is slated for 12:30 p.m. in Hawaii. The match has been moved from Atherton Field to Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park Field 5. Both admission and parking are free.
