Sarah Nelson has been named PacWest Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. The award is based on games played Jan. 19-25.
Nelson earned her third defensive weekly honor of the season, averaging 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 6.0 blocks per game. The Clayton, Calif. native registered 14 rebounds and eight blocks against BYU-Hawaii, breaking Dominican's single-season block record that she set in 2012-13 (72). She remains the NCAA leader in blocks per game (4.94 bpg).
The Penguins host Dixie State on Thrusday, Jan. 29 and Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Jan. 31 in a pair of important PacWest contests as Dominican looks to return to the PacWest Championships this March in Irvine. Tipoff for both games is slated for 5:30 p.m.
