Penguins suffer sixth one-goal defeat of season

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team suffered its sixth one-goal loss of the season in Saturday's 1-0 PacWest Conference loss to BYU-Hawaii.

The Seasiders' (2-4-1/2-0-0 PacWest) goal came in the 27th minute. Jace Green played a ball from the middle of the field on a through ball that split the center and outside back to Pawel Dregan, whose touch took him just inside the 18-yard box. Dregan finshed to the bottom left corner of the goal with a left-footed strike.

That forced Dominican (0-7-1/0-2-0 PacWest) to play from behind the rest of the match. The Penguins managed three shots the entire day with their best chance coming with just under ten minutes left, when Chris Sennes saw his shot cleared off the goal line by a number of Seasider defenders. The Penguins worked overtime at the defensive end. BYU-Hawaii took 16 shots but Dominican kept the Seasiders at a bit of distance, allowing only six of those on frame. Dominican goalkeeper Erik Anderson made five saves.

Sennes, Kolby Mitnick, and Vini Enrqiuez attempted Dominican's three shots.

The Penguins head to San Francisco next Saturday, Oct. 4 to face PacWest rival Academy of Art. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. as the first match of a double-header with the women.
