SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team suffered yet another tough loss in a 2-0 loss at the hands of visiting Chaminade on Thursday afternoon on Kennelly Field.
The Penguins (0-7-0/0-1-0 PacWest) possessed the ball over half the match and outshot the Silver Swords 12-5 but were unable to convert those opportunities into goals. The effort was there and the Penguins came out firing.
Jessica Ramirez nailed the crossbar in the second minute and in the seventh minute
Kayla Karlsson's shot was blocked, which resulted in a corner kick.
Chaminade (2-3-0/2-0-0 PacWest) took its first shot in the 11th minute but
Sylvanna Islas made the save, her lone stop of the day.
Karlsson fired off two more shots in the 14th and 22nd minutes but both were saved by Silver Swords goalkeeper Lauren Ishii. A McKenna Kimball header in the 38th minute sailed wide and right before the half
Sara Pimentel's shot off of a corner kick from
Stephanie Pawek missed wide.
The Silver Swords stunned the Penguins in the 77th minute. Keelani Duffey played a ball upfield to Twyla Hamasaki, who chipped the ball over Islas head from about 21 yards out. Islas got a hand on the ball but it was too high and glided back into the goal to give the Silver Swords a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, Hamasaki broke past her defender on the left side and chipped the ball from about 18 yards out into the lower right corner of the goal.
