Box Score NAMPA, Idaho — After the Penguin's tough 2-1 overtime loss to Cal State Bernardino less than a week ago, Dominican University of California Head men's Soccer Coach
Phil Billeci-Gard opined that "Soccer's such a cruel sport sometimes." The Penguins were victim of that cruelty yet again in a 3-2 loss at Northwest Nazarene on Friday.
The Penguins (0-3-1) allowed a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes and found themselves headed into the locker room at halftime facing a 2-0 deficit. Still, the Penguins never gave up, quickly tying the game in the second half. In the 48th minute, after the Crusaders (2-1-0) failed to clear the ball, sophomore
Mark Caliguire found
Martin Gonzalez twenty yards out for the freshman's first collegiate goal.
Three minutes later, sophomore
Lee LeVerrier took advantage of a similar situation. NNU failed to clear the ball yet again and LeVerrier booted a ball from the middle of the field, 15 yards out, into the left side of the net. He was assisted by
Chris Sennes.
A scoring opportunity by senior
Kolby Mitnick was blocked in the 60th minute, as was a shot by
Garrett Blodgett in the 69th minute.
Goalie
Erik Anderson saved a ball in the 81st minute but the Crusaders pressed on and Fredy Razo connected with Michael Mollay for the game-winner.
Razo had the Crusaders' first goal in the 14th minute and their own
Erik Anderson got the best of Dominican's with his goal in the 19th minute.
The Penguins will face the College of Idaho on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 12:30 p.m. in Caldwell, Idaho.
