Sarah Nelson has been named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The award is based on games played Dec. 1-7.
Nelson averaged 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 9.0 blocks per game. The senior center had 22 points, a career-high 17 rebounds, and eight blocks against NDNU. She then reached that elusive triple-double with 19 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks, another Dominican record, against Holy Names. She leads the PacWest and the nation with 5.5 blocks per game.
Nelson has also been named PacWest Defender of the Week earlier in the season.
The Penguins are off to their best-ever start in the Division II era at 4-3 and have matched their best-ever start in PacWest play at 2-0.
