SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team fell behind early and never recovered in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-18) loss to Fresno Pacific on Tuesday in Pacific West Conference action.
The fourth-place Sunbirds jumped out to an early 11-5 lead in set one. That forced Dominican to play catch-up. The Penguins eventually tied the set at 23-23 on back-to-back FPU hitting errors but a pair of Morghan Williams kills gave FPU the early 1-0 lead. Dominican jumped out to a 7-2 lead in set two but Williams and Rupia Inck powered the Sunbirds to a 9-9 tie. From there, FPU went on a 6-2 run. Dominican pulled within three points thanks to three consecutive FPU errors but a Dominican blocking error gave set two to FPU. After taking a 3-1 lead in set three, Dominican would not see the lead again. FPU responded with a five-point run and would not relinquish the lead.
Samantha Rains and
Susanna Pilkerton led Dominican with eight kills apiece. Dominican libero
Amanda Lee led all players with 13 digs.
Inck and Williams led all players with 12 kills apiece.
