SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team made it back-to-back wins with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday afternoon on Kennelly Field.
Freshman
Yvette Lozano gave the Penguins the game-winner in the 42nd minute with her first goal of her career.
Sara Pimentel played a ball from the midfield to Lozano on the right wing. Lozano's touch inside the box to the low right corner beat NDNU goalkeeper Paige Platko.
Mckenna Kimball, who scored all three goals in the Penguins' 4-1 win over ART U last Saturday, added an insurance goal in the 69th minute.
Mariah Meza played a ball in from 30 yards out to
Kayla Karlsson, who flicked the ball ahead to Kimball. She finished with her right foot to the left center of the net.
In the 88th minute,
Jessica Ramirez put the game well out of reach.
Kaila Wakida fed Ramirez, whose slow roller trickled past backup goalkeeper Kelsee Berryman.
The Penguins' back line limited the Argonauts to four shots. Starting goalkeeper Raquel Ramos made one save in 74 minutes and
Sylvanna Islas made one save in the final 15 minutes.
"We have a talented group of girls and while we learned a great deal in the beginning of the season it could have been rebounding from playing top 20 teams in our nonconference schedule," said Head Coach
Tara Koleski. "The team is finding a way to put the pieces together and most impressive has been our team chemistry. Everyone is stepping up and making for a 100 percent team effort. They deserve these last two games."
