Kimball's hat trick puts women's soccer in win column

San Francisco, Calif. — Mckenna Kimball's second-half hat trick put the Dominican University of California women's soccer team in the win column on Saturday. Her three goals sealed a 4-1 victory over Academy of Art in PacWest Conference play.

"Everybody's put a lot into it so it feels good to finally get a result out of all the hard work," said Kimball. "I'm so proud of our girls."

Stephanie Owens put the Penguins (1-8-0/1-2-0 PacWest) on the board in the 11th minute when she scored her first goal of the season by taking advantage of a turnover by the Urban Knight (1-7-1/1-2-0 PacWest) defense, dribbling the ball into the box and beating goalkeeper Rachael Rempe to the right.

ART U struck back in the 29th minute when Natalie Gabriel settled a cross from Kendall Halliburton in the box, turned and fired from 15 yards out past Dominican goalkeeper Raquel Ramos to tie the match.

Kimball, who haunted ART U last season with a pair of goals including a game-tying goal in an eventual 3-2 overtime victory, netted all three of her goals in the second half. Her first two goals came 33 seconds apart in the 55th minute with her first being the game-winner. Both scores came on nearly identical plays, as Kimball took through passes, first from Owens and then from Ivy Torres, and ran right past the Urban Knights' back line for a 1-v-1 matchup, where she twice scored on Rempe.

In the 72nd minute, Jessica Ramirez's shot was blocked and in the scramble in front of the net, Kimball actually fell down. However, the senior captain put a foot on the loose ball to net her third goal of the day and of the year.

With a win now under their belts, the Penguins return home to host Notre Dame de Namur on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Kickoff is slated for an early 10:30 a.m. Live coverage will be available at dominicanathletics.com/live.
