RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team left its two game-trip to Southern California with a 1-1 tie at second-place California Baptist on Saturday.
Despite having an 8-2 disadvantage in corner kick situations, the Penguins matched CBU with six shots on goal. Dominican took the early 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when defender
Megan Hanson connected with
Mckenna Kimball in the 17th minute. Hanson played the ball to Kimball, who shot the ball into the upper left corner.
The Penguins' roster, already without junior All-PacWest player
Lauren Gollnick and senior goalkeeper Raquel "Rocky" Ramos, took yet another blow in the 20th minute when Kimball took a cleat to the knee and was helped off the field by a member of the Dominican training staff.
CBU's Justene Kesterson scored the equalizer in the 32nd minute with a one-touch off the cross. The two teams played scoreless soccer the final 78 minutes. CBU took three corner kicks in the first overtime period and had one shot, which freshman goalkeeper
Sylvanna Islas saved. The Lancers took two more shots in the final ten minutes but one sailed wide and Islas made yet another save to preserve the tie.

Kayla Karlsson and
Mariah Meza each had two shots on goal, and
Stephanie Pawek had one. Islas finished the day with five saves.
