Women's soccer suffers fourth shutout of season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team suffered its fourth shutout of the season in a tough 1-0 loss at Point Loma on Thursday.

The PacWest matchup could have gone either way. Both squads fired 10 shots with six on frame but the Sea Lions got that crucial goal in the 55th minute. Kaiti Freeberg's shot was saved by Dominican goalkeeper Sylvanna Islas but Sami Swanson collected the rebound for the putback and game-winning goal.

McKenna Kimball had half of the Penguins' shots with two on frame. Jessica Ramirez came off the bench and had two shots on goal. Megan Hanson and Lina Miller each had one shot on goal.

Islas made five saves but was saddled with the loss, the fourth for the freshman. Islas holds a .714 save percentage in six contests, behind the .750 save percentage by senior Rocky "Raquel" Ramos, who reinjured her shoulder against Fresno Pacific and was forced to miss the trip.

Dominican wraps up the two-game raod trip to Southern California on Saturday, Oct. 18 at California Baptist. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. in Riverside.
