SAN DIEGO, Calif. —
Chris Sennes' first goal of the season in the 34th minute tied the match but a pair of second-half goals by Point Loma prevented the Dominican University of California men's soccer team from earning a victory in a 3-1 loss on Thursday.
Sennes tied the game when he headed in a rebound off a
Lee LeVerrier shot that was saved. Point Loma had gone up early, 1-0, with a left-footed shot from right side of the box by Matt Rose.
The Sea Lions took the lead for good in the 63rd minute when Rose took a free kick, which Tyler Allen redirected into the net. Three minutes later, the Sea Lions tacked on an insurance goal.
Daniel Ten Bosch crossed a ball into the box to Nico Tagaloa, who headed the ball to Mitch Wheelon. Wheelon connected with a header himself for the goal.
Goalkeeper
Oscar O'Con and the Dominican defense had a busy day. The Sea Lions tallied 18 shots, though only placed seven of those on goal. O'Con finished the day with four saves.
Sennes had three of the Penguins' four shots on goal. LeVerrier had the other, which resulted in the Sennes goal.
Dominican wraps up the two-game raod trip to Southern California on Saturday, Oct. 18 at California Baptist. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. in Riverside.
