RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team fell victim to a barrage of shots by California Baptist University on Saturday in a 4-0 loss.
The Penguins held their ground in the first half. Goalkeeper
Patrick Rabbitt, who saw his first game action of the season, made six of his eight saves in the first half and helped the Penguins reach halftime with no score. However, CBU was relentless and took 15 shots each half with 12 total on goal. The Lancers wasted no time in the second half when James Bogdanovich netted the game-winner from six yards out in the 49th minute. CBU put the match out of reach with three late goals in the 80th, 85th, and 88th minutes.
Dominican attempted three shots, all by starters
Joshua Godoy,
Alex Herrera, and
Lee LeVerrier.
Senior
Dale Howard, in his second game back from injury, played 19 minutes off the bench but the Penguins' roster is still depleted. Five of the team's seven seniors — goalkeeper
Erik Anderson, leading goal-scorer
Kolby Mitnick, and defenders
Cory Vanderpool,
Fabian Valdez-Mendoza,
Manny Sandoval-Gutierrez — were all unvailable on Saturday, as was freshman forward
Aaron Ruth.
The Penguins return home to San Rafael to host Hawai'i Pacific on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at
