Penguins raise over $1,100 on "Kick Out Breast Cancer" Day

Dominican falls 1-0 to FPU

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team found itself on the short end of a 1-0 match with Fresno Pacific on Saturday in the team's "Kick Out Breast Cancer Day."

Dominican goalkeeper Oscar O'Con, who entered in the 40th minute for injured starter Erik Anderson, allowed the match's lone goal in the 66th minute. The ball was played downfield past the left back and along the goal line by Dylan Rusconi to Alvaro Nogales. Nogales finished with his left foot to the upper right corner.

The Penguins had opportunities despite being outshot 13-9. Chase Goulart took a shot in the 12th minute that went wide. Kolby Mitnick fired off five shots, with his best two looks coming in the 32nd minute and 48th minute. Mitnick's first shot came from the left wing but it was saved by FPU goalkeeper Andrew Luis. His second came from the close right wing but slammed off the post. Drake Albee had a last-ditch effort in the final minute but his shot from the far right wing went wide.

The match began with a stirring tribute honoring those lost to breast cancer and pink jerseys worn by the team were auctioned during the match and proceeds totaling over $1,100 will be donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Dominican hits the road for a pair of matches in Southern California at Point Loma and California Baptist on Oct. 16 and 18.
