Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Myles Carrillo dished out a career-high 12 assists as part of a double-double and the Dominican University of California mens' basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 94-77 victory over visiting UH Hilo on Thursday night in the Conlan Center.

The Penguins (12-7/6-5 PacWest) shot the lights out going a season-best 33-of-53 (62.3 percent) from the field, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from deep. A Dominique Taplin layup opened the game and the Penguins never trailed. In fact, Dominican led UHH (3-13/0-10 PacWest) for the game's final 37 minutes.

After four straight points from Taplin extended the lead to 10 points, Matt Hayes missed a three-pointer in the corner with 14 seconds left in the first half. Connor Haysbert grabbed the offensive board and the Penguins held the ball for the final shot. Carrillo found Hayes in the corner again and this time the sophomore sharpshooter found nothing but net to fire his team up and give the Penguins a 42-29 halftime lead.

In addition to having a career night distributing the ball, Carrillo got it done himself with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a three-pointer that built the lead to 54-35 less than three minutes into the second half. An 8-0 run minutes later extended the lead to 62-38 and the lead grew to as large as 31 on a Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten three-pointer. That lead allowed Head Coach Booker T. Harris to empty his bench and use all 10 healthy players. All of those players scored at least two points, as the Penguins scored 90 or more points for the first time since a 91-89 overtime victory over Azusa Pacific on Dec. 5.

Haysbert led the Penguins with 18 points, going 6-of-11 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line, and pulled down six rebounds.Taplin notched his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Hayes and Schwartz-Edmisten finished with nine points apiece.

Joey Rodriguez went 5-for-10 from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line for a team-high 21 points for the Vulcans.

Dominican hosts second-place Chaminade University on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. The Penguins surrendered an eight-point halftime lead before falling 75-65 to the Silver Swords (12-6/9-1 PacWest) back on Jan. 6 in Hawai'i. Live coverage will be available at dominicanathletics.com/live.
