Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball opened up its three-game road trip with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) decision at Point Loma on Friday night.
Dominican (1-11/0-4) started strong with an 11-7 lead but the Sea Lions (10-3/4-0) responded with a 12-1 run that put them ahead 19-12. The Penguins nearly came storming all the way back and pulled within three points, 24-21, but an attack error prevented a complete comeback.
Set two was tight with both teams taking the lead early. With the match tied 13-13, the teams exchanged points yet again but the Sea Lions rattled off four consecutive points to take a 21-15 lead. The Penguins answered with three points of their own but Point Loma recorded four of the last five points to take set two.
An early 5-2 lead kept the momentum in favor of Point Loma and the Penguins were forced to play defensively. Dominican came back though to take a 22-20 lead but the lead was short lived, as the Sea Lions scored the next five points to take the match.
Jessica Jones led the Penguins with 10 kills.
Amanda Wasko,
Megan Callen, and
Samantha Rains all had seven kills apiece. Wasko led all players with 22 digs.
The Penguins continue their road trip with a match on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Azusa Pacific University. First serve is slated for 5:00 p.m.
