Box Score ATHERTON, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw versus Menlo College on Monday afternoon on Wunderlich Field.

Down 1-0 late, the Penguins (1-2-1) pressed in the final 10 minutes and it paid off. An all-around physical game — 41 fouls were called — ended up costing the Oaks (2-0-1) late. A Menlo foul in the 88th minute set up a Swap Mushiana free kick from the top of the box and the Dominican co-captain deftly scored the equalizer, burying the ball in the right side of the net past a diving Menlo goalkeeper.

Mushiana has scored Dominican's last three goals and had five of the team's 13 shots on Monday, four of which were on frame.

Dominican had three close looks in double overtime. Defender Sam Vella's shot just wide right, Kolby Mitnick's shot went off the right post, and a nice cross from Mitnick across the goal face to Lee Leverrier was booted above the crossbar.

Menlo's Andrew Cota scored an unassisted goal from the left side in the 42nd minute to give the Oaks an early lead right before the half.

In his second start of the season, Dominican goalkeeper Patrick Rabbitt recorded four saves while allowing one goal in 110 minutes of action.

"We shot ourselves in the foot in the first half with such a slow start. Credit to Menlo for making it a difficult game for the first 45 minutes," said Head Coach Phil Billeci-Gard. "We showed great fight and character to come back and play the way we did in the second half and in overtime. Now we just have to do it for a full 90."

The Penguins begin PacWest action versus Point Loma on Thursday, Sept. 19. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women, who play at 2:00 p.m. Live coverage of those games will be available at dominicanathletics.com/live.
