Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team took 14 shots and placed an incredible dozen of those shots on goal against Saint Martin's on Saturday.
Lauren Gollnick and
Mckenna Kimball both found the back of the net with two of those shots en route to a 2-0 non-conference home victory on Soccer Alumni Day.
"It just keeps coming together more and more. Today, after coming out of a double overtime match, it was a group effort," said Head Coach
Tara Koleski. "We showed that we have some depth in our lineup, which is always good to have. We're starting to capitalize and more and more we're getting more shots on goal."
Gollnick had the game-winner on Dominican's first shot of the game in the 12th minute.
Kendra Corsberg played a ball into
Stephanie Pawek, who had a touch towards the end line. Pawek beat the defender and played back towards the goal, where she found Gollnick making near post run. The sophomore forward finished with a low left-footed shot that beat diving SMU goalkeeper Gina Cardenas.
It was the second goal of the season for last season's PacWest Freshman of the Year, who now has 10 shots in her last four games, including four — three on goal — on Saturday.
Gollnick had another look in the 40th minute that Cardenas saved before going into halftime.
Jessica Ramirez had a shot two minutes into the second half and
Kaitlynn Baptista had a look at the 50-minute mark.
Dominican had three more shots on goal before Kimball scored a putback off of a blocked shot-save from the foot of
Stephanie Owens.
Sara Pimentel added a pair of shots on goal that were both saved in the final final five minutes.
"Today's outcome is something to build on moving into conference," added Koleski. "Our fitness and work ethic is the driving force, especially in the final minutes."
Goalkeeper
Megan Herring had four saves for her third shutout in five matches. Last year's NCAA Division II saves percentage leader (.910) already has a .900 save percentage early on.
