Season-low shooting, rebounding do in Penguins at APU

Devin Golston scored 16 points but the Penguins shot a season-low .350 at APU.
Box Score AZUSA, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's basketball team struggled to shoot and rebound on Wednesday night, which resulted in an 81-63 Pacific West Conference loss to Azusa Pacific University.

Jacob Noisat pulled down a team-high five rebounds but the Penguins (12-9/8-5) combined for a season-low 25 boards while the Cougars (9-10/6-5) grabbed 45 on the night as they won their third game in four games.

Dominican also had its lowest field goal percentage of the season (21-of-60, .350) while Azusa Pacific made over half of its field goal attempts (30-of-54, .556).

APU fell behind 20-9 midway through the first half but cut the lead to four on four separate occasions. The Penguins went scoreless the final two minutes of the half though and the Cougars stretched the lead to 41-29. The deficit grew as large as 25 in the second half and Dominican never came closer than within nine points.

Troy Leaf led the Cougars with 20 points, 16 in the second half, and B.J. Porter added 18 points, while each pulled down five rebounds. Jarred Zoller went 6-of-8 en route to a 15 point night and added six rebounds. Sharif Watson pulled down a team-high seven boards.

Devin Golston led the Penguins with 16 points, 12 in the second half. Jammall Clark went 5-of-8 from the floor and finished the night with 14 points.

Dominican hosts first-place Dixie State College on Monday, Feb. 11, which is also Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. The first 50 Dominican faculty and staff to attend Monday night's games will receive a free t-shirt. Additionally, there will be raffles throughout the evening for Dominican Athletics shirts and other gear. Athletics staff will also be distributing coupons to faculty and staff good for a free beverage with any purchase at the snack bar.
