Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Despite spirited play in the second half, the Dominican University of California women's basketball team was unable to overcome poor first half shooting and ballhandling en route to a 93-60 loss at California Baptist University in Pacific West Conference play on Monday evening.

The Lady Penguins were cold from the start and went just 8-of-28 (.286) from the field in the first 20 minutes. Coupled with 15 first half turnovers, Dominican (5-15/4-8) found itself in a hole early. The Lancers (14-5/8-3) used a 15-0 run that spanned six minutes to build a 22-4 lead and by halftime the Lady Penguins trailed 42-18.

Dominican played markedly better in the second half though, as the Lady Penguins were more aggressive in taking the ball to the hoop and ball movement generated open looks. They made 16-of-35 (.457) shots in the second half and went to the free throw line 14 times compared to just twice in the first half to tally 42 second half points.

Still, the Lancers added 51 points after the intermission despite turning the ball over 11 times. Five CBU players reached double digits, led by 14 apiece from Jasmine Beverly, Simone Holmes, and Mekiala Qualls.

The Lady Penguins were paced by 14 points and six rebounds from Jasmine Cox. Lauren Hyatt added 12 points and four blocks while Stephanie Carnes dished out four of the team's 13 assists.

Dominican will look to salvage the last game of the three-game Southern California road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Azusa Pacific University. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
