Jessy Marshall had a career-high 15 points and
Lauren Hyatt added a season-high 14 points and 10 rebounds but the Dominican University of Califorina women's basketball team was unable to bounce back from a slow start in an 82-70 loss to Lees-McRae College on Saturday in the final day of the North Star Invitational.
While the Penguins (0-7) took 14 more shot attempts than the Bobcats (3-5) and recorded their highest scoring output of the season, both teams made an equal amount — 24-of-57 for Lees-McRae compared to 24-of-71 for Dominican. The game was determined in the first five minutes as the Bobcats jumped out to a 14-4 lead with 15:51 to go in the first half. At the nine-minute mark, Dominican cut the lead all the way to three with a 9-3 run that included a succcessful and-one for
Danielle Yamauchi. The Bobcats responded with a run of their own though and quickly built the lead back to 12 before taking a 40-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The deficit grew as large as 18 in the second half but used several small runs to keep within striking distance. The Penguins also limited the Bobcats to 12-of-31 (.387) shooting in the second half would never bounce back from their first half troubles.
Noelle Roldan added nine points in the loss.

Salonika Quewon-Owens each added six points apiece. Cox pulled down nine rebounds and Yamauchi dished out nine assists.
The Bobcats were led by 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting from Alyssa Munson.
