Lauren Hyatt had a season-high 11 points but the Dominican University of California women's basketball team shot just 16-of-63 (.254) from the field in an 84-44 loss to Wayne State (Neb.) on Friday evening in day two of the North Star Invitational.
Jasmine Cox added eights points off the bench in her second game back from injury and
Salonika Quewon-Owens added seven points in the loss. Hyatt and Cox each grabbed six rebounds to lead the Penguins (0-6) in rebounding.
Three Wildcats (7-0) reached double digits, led by Ellen Hansen's 13 points.
Wayne State, which received votes in the most recent NCAA Division II women's basketball national poll, jumped out to a 13-3 lead. The Wildcats led 41-16 at halftime and led by as much as 44 in the game.
Dominican closes out its participation in the North Star Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 30 with a 2:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. Pacific) tilt versus Lees-McRae College (2-5) in the Patty Center.
