Jones records season-high as women's volleyball tops ART U

Box Score SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's volleyball team got a season-high 22 kills from senior Jessica Jones and the Penguins topped Academy of Art University 3-1 (25-12, 25-19, 27-29, 25-15) to sweep the two-match season series.

The Penguins (11-18/8-11) jumped out to an 8-1 lead and used a pair of four-point runs to take set one easily. Set two was tied at 17-17 when Dominican jumped ahead, 21-17, on kills from Hannah Stocking-Siagkris, Megan Callen, and Jessica Jones, punctuated by an ace by Stocking-Siagkris.

Dominican fell behind the Urban Knights (11-17/7-13) in set three, 24-20, before tying the match at 24-24 on four consecutive points — two ART U errors and a pair of Jones kills. The Urban Knights scored four of the next five points though to take set three.

Dominican stormed back in set four. Tied 4-4, the Penguins rattled off eight consecutive points as part of a 14-1 run en route to the set four victory.

Senior setter Kelsey Lardner dished out 52 assists, two shy of her career-high. Sophomore Amanda Wasko add 15 kills and senior Hannah Stocking-Siagkris added 11 in the victory.

Dominican saw strong defense from its young players. In addition to Stocking-Siagrkis' 18 digs, freshman libero Amanda Lee led all players with 20 digs and freshman Madeline Powelson had 13 digs.

Emily Papale led the Urban Knights with 15 kills.

The Penguins host Azusa Pacific University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Penguins' final match of the season. Dominican's three seniors — Jones, Lardner, and Stocking-Siagkirs — will be honored in a pregame ceremony. It is also Camper Appreciation Day.
