Women's soccer bounces back with shutout at Chaminade

Lauren Gollnick scored her fourth goal of the season and third game-winner on Monday vs. Chaminade.
Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii — Lauren Gollnick had her third game-winner of the season and goalkeeper Megan Herring notched her sixth shutout of the season as the Dominican University of California women's soccer team bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday with a 1-0 shutout of Chaminade University on Monday.

"It has been challenging to get acclimated to the conditions of Hawai'i but today was a good result for us," said Head Coach Tara Koleski. "We created more shots on goal than any game before. Today also allowed us to get many different personalities involved, including getting Lauren back into the mix in a big way."

The Penguins (6-5-2/3-3-1), who fell 2-1 late at BYU-Hawaii to begin their Hawaiian roadtrip, got all they needed on Monday from the reigning PacWest Freshman of the Year in the 35th minute to get past the Silver Swords (0-10/0-6).

Gollnick received the ball from 25 yards out, trapped the ball and turned her defender, then shot it with her right foot into the pure back post. The forward, who came off the bench on Monday, led all players with nine shots, five of which were on frame.

Mckenna Kimball had another strong offensive game with seven shots, three on goal, though her four-game scoring streak came to an end against the Silver Swords.

As a team, the Penguins outshot the Silver Swords 35-9 and held a 4-1 corner kick advantage.

Herring made a season-high eight saves to raise her save percentage up to .841.

Dominican heads to Kaneohe to face Hawai'i Pacific University on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Ahterton Field. The Sea Warriors are 4-7, having most recently dropped a 1-0 decision to Fresno Pacific. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m. HST.
