Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Dominian University of California women's volleyball team earned a hard-fought five-set road victory (16-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 15-11) at Point Loma Nazarene University to finish the 2012 season on a winning note.

The Lady Penguins began the match by dropping their fourth straight set by the score of 25-16. Neither team led by more than four in set two and extra points were necessary for the decision. Dominican went ahead 17-13 on an attack error by Delaney McCraney but the Sea Lions came back to tie it at 21 apiece with one of her match-high 20 kills. After McCraney put the Sea Lions ahead 23-22, Dominican rallied for the last three points, capped by Rebecca Schira's kill, to take the set 25-23.

Dominican fell behind early in set three and strung together three consecutive points just once to eventually fall 25-18. After falling behind early in set four again, the Lady Penguins recovered the lead with a seven-point rally sparked by three kills from senior middle Ashlee Sand. The Sea Lions tied it at 12 but Dominican capitalized on Sea Lions errors and a Hannah Stocking-Siagkris kill to take the set 25-21.

A Samantha Rains kill and three more Sea Lions errors put Dominican ahead early in the decisive fifth set. Pairs of kills from Jones and Sand kept Dominican moving toward the finish line and a pair of Stocking-Siagkris kills helped to clinch the match with the 15-11 win.

Jones led Dominican with 17 kills. Stocking-Siagrkis had 12 kills and Sand tied a season-high 11 kills on .345 hitting. Senior Skyler Moon added four kills.

Sand was equally effective at the net with three block assists. Schira added four block assists.

Dominican's ball handling was fantastic as well. Freshman libero Sari Kwan dug out a career-high 30 digs, followed by 19 by Stocking-Siagkris, and 10 from senior defensive specialist Katy Batchelder.

Junior Kelsey Lardner dished out 16 assists and placed a pair of service aces on the court.

"Our passing and serving kept us in the game but our defense won the match," said Head Coach Gayle Stammer. "What a great way to end the season! Our seniors played at the top of their game to lead us to victory."

With the win, Dominican finishes the season at 7-18 and 5-11 in Pacific West Conference play. Point Loma falls to 10-16 and 6-10 in the PacWest. Dominican finishes ninth in the expanded 14-team conference.
