Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team played to a draw for nearly an hour but eventually gave way, 2-0, to No. 15 Grand Canyon University on Saturday.

In the 58th minute Adam Finnefrock assisted from the right side to Albe Garcia Sanchez, whose sliding goal into the back of the net broke the scoring seal. GCU (11-2-0/8-1-0) who entered the game ranked 15th in scoring offense with 2.73 goals per game, had plenty of opportunities with 28 shots. The 'Lopes didn't exceed their average but added an insurance goal in the 77th minute on Saeed Robinson's goal.

Swap Mushiana, who missed the past two games, and Pedro Guevara, who came out in the first five minutes of the Penguins' last match, both played. Guevara launched three shots and had a look at the net blocked in the 67th minute. David Mendez provided the Penguins' other scoring opportunities with three shots, including a shot in the 83rd minute that was saved by Joshua Zehring.

The Penguins (7-5-0/3-5-0) had more set pieces than GCU but were unable to score on any of the team's seven corner kicks.

Dominican, which entered third in the nation in saves per game (8.0), saw goalkeeper Erik Anderson get plenty of work. The sophomore stopped all five shots on goal in the first half as GCU launched 16 first-half shots and made one save in the second half to finish the night with half a dozen.

The Penguins return home to Kennelly Field in the John F. Allen Athletics Complex on Oct. 18 for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff with Academy of Art University. Live radio and statistical coverage will be available at www.dominicanathletics.com/live.

On Oct. 20 the Dominican soccer teams will "Kick Out Breast Cancer" by wearing pink jerseys that will be auctioned off, with a portion of the proceeds going to Marin General Hospital Foundation. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games in support of breast cancer research. Learn more about Dominican's "Kick Out Breast Cancer" initiative here.
