BOX SCORE

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — On Saturday evening in Pacific West Conference play, the Dominican University of California men's basketball team fell to the Chaminade Silverswords, 69-47. Sophomore Killian Larson led the Penguins 14 points and seven rebounds.

The night didn't start well for the Penguins (3-21/3-11), as Chaminade (18-7/10-2) jumped out to an early 10-0 lead. However, an 8-3 run put Dominican right back in the game, led by senior forward Leon Hart and junior guard Xander McNally accounting all eight points to start the game.

The first-place Silverswords, who are ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II West Region Poll, continued to control the first half, outscoring the Penguins 26-11 the rest of the way. Senior guard Steven Bennett hit a three-point basket to close the half, which capped off his team-leading 14 for the half.

The second half was not much better for the Penguins. Although the scoring was close to even between the two teams, it was not enough to make up for the deficit from the first half. Twelve of Larson's 14 points came in the second half.

Three Silverswords shared the team scoring lead. With 14 points was junior center Mamadou Diarra, senior guard Steven Bennett and junior guard Chris Curtis.

Junior guard Mark Lewis added nine points, all in the second half, and Hart finished with eight points.

The Penguins close their home schedule on Friday, Feb. 25 against Academy of Art University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Conlan Center. Prior to the game, seniors Mike Wells, Brett Poncia, Adam Chavis, and Leon Hart will be recognized for their contributions to the Dominican Basketball. In the first meeting, the Penguins defeated the Urban Knights 73-64 on Feb. 3. Friday's game will be broadcast live online at http://radio.dominican.edu and www.dominicanathletics.com/livevideo.
