BOX SCORE
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Senior guard
Kelsey Janusch poured in a season-high 25 points and was one of four Dominican University of California players to reach double digits on Tuesday night as the Dominican women defeated BYU-Hawaii 78-70 in Pacific West Conference action at the Conlan Center.
Dominican (7-17/4-9) took as large as a seven-point lead in the first half but the Seasiders (3-16/2-8) trailed by just a point at halftime thanks to 14-of-26 (.538) shooting in the first 20 minutes of play.
Dominican finally stretched the lead to 8 when graduate guard
Tammy Brawner fed senior forward
Shawna Bryant for the three-point play. With just over nine minutes to play, Richelle Rieben worked her way to the free throw line for the Seasiders and tied things up on a pair of makes. Dominican answered with eight straight points, capped by a Janusch three-pointer. A pair of Janusch free throws at the three-minute mark gave Dominican a 10-point lead and a Branwer free throw would give the Lady Penguins their largest lead at 14 with just over half a minute to play. The Seasiders scored six straight points to close the game.
Senior guard Richelle Rieben scored a team-high 14 points before fouling out for the Seasiders. Senior forward Zori Drew added 11 points and senior forward Madison Kite tallied 10 points.
