Physical Match at BYU-Hawaii Ends in Draw for Dominican Men

Pedro Guevara had a hand in both Penguin goals as Dominican battled to a 2-2 tie with BYU-Hawaii on Saturday.

LAIE, Hawai'i — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team fought to a 2-2 tie with Brigham Young University - Hawaii after neither team scored in double overtime period of the Pacific West Conference match.

BYU–Hawaii (2-8-1/1-7-1) scored first with Cameron Pettey's goal at 19:47.  Pettey's goal was the result of a free kick. The Penguins (2-8-2/2-5-1) tied the game 10 minutes later when Pedro Guevara knocked in his eighth goal of the season from Todd Mata. Viktor Bezhani put the Seasiders back ahead less than a minute later on a penalty kick. The only goal of the second half and the final goal of the match came when Dominican's Rafael Garcia headed a ball from Guevara at 57:53.

Matthew Carlson made seven stops for the Penguins as he broke the 1000-minute mark for the season.

The match was extremely physical, as Dominican racked up five yellow cards and 15 fouls. The Seasiders were carded once while committing 27 fouls.

The Dominican men complete their roadtrip through Hawai'i on Monday, October 18 against Chaminade University and on Wednesday, October 20 at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. Monday's game is slated for a 10:00 a.m./1:00 p.m. Pacific kickoff and Wednesday gets underway at 3:00 p.m./6:00 p.m. Pacific.
