KANEOHE, Hawai'i — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team tallied its second consecutive victory on Thursday afternoon with a 1-0 Pacific West Conference victory over host Hawai'i Pacific University.
The Penguins (2-8-1/2-5-0) scored the game's only goal at 78:30 when
Pedro Guevara placed a penalty kick into the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Dominican controlled the game's pace, outshooting HPU (7-5-0/6-2-0) 11-6. Guevara and
Evan Cordova led the club, each with a pair of shots on goal.
The Dominican defense, led by captains
Ryan Vella and
Alec Ziegler, stymied the second-place Sea Warriors. Keeper
Matthew Carlson stopped both attempts that came his way.
The Dominican men now head to the north side of the island to face BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, October 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m./6:00 p.m. Pacific.
