SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California men's soccer team saw their two-game conference win streak come to an end as the Penguins fell 1-0 to visiting Grand Canyon University on Wednesday afternoon.
After a battle of undefeated teams in conference play, Dominican falls to 5-4 and 2-1 in Pacific West Conference play while GCU improves to 7-1-1 and remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
The lone goal of the game came at 20:47 when GCU's Juan Mendez connected with Jesse Baker for the game winner.
Both teams took 9 shots, with GCU taking six shots on goal and the Penguins attempting three shots on goal.
Pedro Guevara had four shots and one shot on goal for Dominican.

Matthew Carlson had an otherwise successful day in goal, making five saves on six attempts.
The Penguins return to the field on Friday when they travel to Belmont to face PacWest opponent Notre Dame de Namur University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
