BELMONT, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team had a rude welcoming into the ranks of Division II competition, falling 6-0 to Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Penguins were limited to two shots on goal while the Broncos connected on six of their 13 shots on goal.

Dominican managed to fend off the Bronco attack for the first 43 minutes of the game but a speeding Cody McClure came charging in from the right side to sneak a goal in over junior goalie Alicia Paulsen's head to give Pomona a 1-0 advantage going into the locker room at halftime.

Things unraveled for Dominican in the second half, as the Broncos placed a goal in the net just 37 seconds into the second half and went on to notch four more before the final horn.

Paulsen had a busy day in the net, recording three saves in 69 minutes of work but allowed 4 goals. She was relieved by sophomore keeper Jill Rizo, who played the remaining 21 minutes and made four saves while allowing two goals.

“We have to realize that it takes a full effort, we need to play an entire 90 minutes of soccer," Dominican head coach Jonathan Delano said. "We can't take one scond off, whereas in the past we were dominant and able to rest people. It was a reality check for us."

The Dominican men face Cal Poly Pomona tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at Notre Dame de Namur University. The women return to action on September 4 when they travel to  Sacramento State for a 2:30 kickoff.
