SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team recorded a 74-68 non-conference victory over California Maritime Academy on Tuesday evening and in doing so pulled to .500 to stand at 3-3 on the season.

Lauren Westbrook put Cal Maritime (2-9) on the scoreboard first with a three-pointer but PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honoree Tammy Brawner answered with a three of her own for the Lady Penguins. Maritime went ahead by four before a jump shot by Melissa Wise gave Dominican a 12-10 advantage with 15:50 to play in the first. The Keelhaulers tied things up at 16-16 when Alexsis Brown laid the ball in at the 12:18 mark. Kimi Nakamura drilled a three-pointer to give Dominican the lead at 19-16 and the Lady Penguins never gave the lead up the rest of the night.

Dominican came out of the locker room and added to the nine-point halftime lead on a Raquel Gomes basked in the key before Maritime cut the lead to four points on two occasions.  Dominican used another three ball to grow the lead back to 11 and took as large as a 12-point lead before the Keelhaulers chipped away again. With 46 seconds left on the clock, Shellsea Stoughton hit a shot to pull the Keelhaulers within three points but a Gomes layup and Brawner free throw put the game out of reach for the six-point win.

The Lady Penguins outrebounded the Keelhaulers 50-38 and limited Cal Maritime to .343 shooting in the game. Dominican went 29-of-65 from the field (.446) and made half of its eight three-pointers attempted.

Five Dominican players reached double-digits and nine of the ten players who stepped onto the court for the Lady Penguins scored. Nakamura and Michaelia Baskerville both led Dominican with 12 points apiece. It was a career high for Nakamura and a season-high for Baskerville, who added 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Brawner and Kelsey Janusch all scored 10 points in the victory. Gomes also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Three players recorded double-digit scoring for the Keelhaulers. Taylor Himmelspach led all players with 16 points.

The Dominican women travel to San Francisco State on Friday, Dec. 12. Tipoff has been moved up to 5:30 p.m. to accomodate the Gators' doubleheader that night.
