Kurt Jensen has worked with the Dominican University of California softball program for the past five seasons, serving as a pitching coach and helping develop one of the most accomplished groups of pitchers in the program's NCAA Division II era.
Jensen brings more than 16 seasons of coaching experience in baseball and travel softball, working with athletes from the 10U level through the collegiate ranks. His background includes coaching with established travel softball organizations All American Sports Academy and the San Jose Sting.
During his time at Dominican, Jensen has worked closely with pitchers including Shelby Keltner, Taylor Rodriguez and Kassidy Stetler. Across Jensen's five seasons with the program, Dominican's pitching staff and individual pitchers have established or tied 22 major NCAA Division II-era team, career and single-season records.
Keltner developed into one of the most accomplished pitchers in program history while working with Jensen. A four-time All-PacWest selection, she concluded her career as Dominican's NCAA Division II-era leader with 46 wins, 543 strikeouts, 129 appearances, 94 starts, 50 complete games, 10 shutouts and 628 2/3 innings pitched. Her 167 strikeouts in 2023 established the Dominican single-season record, while she also set or shared single-season marks during her career in ERA, strikeouts per seven innings, strikeouts looking and saves.
Rodriguez followed with another record-setting career, highlighted by a breakout junior season in 2025 when she was named PacWest Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-PacWest. She established Dominican single-season records with 18 victories and a 1.56 ERA while tying the program mark with six shutouts. Rodriguez finished her career as Dominican's NCAA Division II-era leader with seven saves and ranked second with 33 victories while also placing among the program's career leaders in appearances, starts, innings pitched, strikeouts, complete games and shutouts.
Jensen also worked with Stetler, who tied Dominican's single-season saves record with three in 2025 and combined with Rodriguez and the rest of the staff during one of the most successful seasons in program history. The 2025 Penguins established NCAA Division II-era team records with 32 overall victories and 23 PacWest wins while the pitching staff set or tied several program standards, including team ERA, shutouts and other major pitching categories.
Jensen's experience at the youth, travel and collegiate levels has allowed him to provide Dominican's pitchers with individualized instruction while helping develop the staff as a whole. His five seasons with the Penguins have coincided with a significant rewriting of Dominican's pitching record book and the development of multiple All-PacWest performers.
