Cowden joined the Dominican volleyball coaching staff in Fall 2013. A former NCAA student-athlete himself, Cowden has more than 25 years of coaching experience. His expertise has developed from his involvement with athletes in multipe sports at all ages and levels. He i trained in the Gold Medal Squared System and certified by USA Volleybal as a CAP III-level coach.
For the past four seasons before joining the staff at Dominican, Cowden served as the first assistant at Foothill College. During that span, the the program captured three conference titles (2009, 2010, 2011) and two Sweet 16 apperances in the state championships (2009, 2010).
In 2012, Cowden worked with the NVCA in conjunction with USA Volleyball to develop the existence of a national women's professional league (PVL). In 2013, as head coach, he took the Northern California women's team to a Final Four appearance at the national championship in Louisvilley, Kentucky.
