Following a successful five-year run as head varsity girls’ basketball coach at Will C. Wood High School in Vacaville, Rodriguez joined the Lady Penguins staff in 2010–11. At Wood, he coached Darla Bishop, younger sister of Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop. She was a two-time team MVP at Wood who was recruited by NCAA Division I Sacramento State.
Prior to coaching at Wood, Rodriguez coached with National Junior Basketball and an AAU team with the Vacaville Vengeance Basketball Association. He also assisted at the Stanford University Summer Basketball Camp for Hall of Fame coach Tara VanDerveer.
A native of South San Francisco who attended El Camino High School, Rodriguez graduated from the Los Medanos Police Academy in 1996 and received the top student award and graduated number one in his class. He has been a police officer since 1991 and has served with the Daly City Police Department since 1996. He received the medal of valor in 1999.
