Gene Tobola joined Dominican as an assistant coach for softball beginning in the spring 2023 season.
Prior to his time with the Penguins, Tobola amassed over 12 years of softball coaching experience through the travel ball level with several organizations throughout Northern California. Tobola spent the 2019 -2022 seasons as an Assistant Coach for The Ohana Tigers 16U-18U Gold NorCal club softball. While there, he coached over 20 players and led his 16U team to win the championship in Colorado Sparklers and qualified for 18U PGF Platinum and Premier.
He also served as an assistant coach for the Fairfield 6U-10U Bobby Sox All Star team and won first place in the national divisions from 2010-2012. He then became the head coach for Cepeda Softball club team for three years where his team earned the top-3 ranking for USSA 10U team. Tobola spent time as an assistant coach for Norcal Bownet and took third place in the Triple Crown Sports World Series in Reno and qualified for the 14U PGF Platinum Nationals.
Tobola joined the Independent League baseball and Mexican American League baseball as a Pitcher/Outfielder from 1994 -1998 and won five championships. Tobola was the Head Coach at St. Catherine Catholic School in Vallejo for baseball and basketball team from 2004-2007.
He was a four-year JV/Varsity baseball player for Vallejo High School as a pitcher and outfielder. He currently also works for the Santa Clara County Sheriff Dept.
