Diego Marroquin

Prior to joining the Dominican University staff, Marroquin served as a volunteer assistant coach at Division I Sacramento State. Preceding his time with the Hornets, Marroquin was an assistant at Santa Rosa Junior College and helped SRJC earn a Big 8 Conference Championship in 2012 as well as a No. 15 NSCAA national ranking.

Academically, Marroquin earned a Master of Science in Coaching and Exercise Science from Concordia University Irvine in 2020. Prior to Concordia Irvine, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Sacramento State in 2014. Marroquin also earned a C license from the United States Soccer Federation.

Professionally, Marroquin's playing experience includes back-to-back NPSL national championships in 2009 with the Sonoma Sol and in 2010 with the Sacramento Gold. Additionally, he spent time in the Premier Development League with the Des Moines Menace, where he was named team Defensive MVP in 2011. In 2013, he spent the season with the Sacramento Surge of the MASL, and the 2014 preseason with the expansion Sacramento Republic of the USL.


Marroquin's highlights of his playing career includes scoring the game-winning penalty in the 2009 MPSF championship to send Sacramento State to its first ever NCAA tournament appearance.  He was a two-time MPSF All-Conference selection in 2009 and 2010 with the Hornets, and the team's Defensive MVP in 2010. Marroquin and the Hornets reached the second round of the NCAA Championships in 2009 and 2010. In two seasons at SRJC, Marroquin helped lead his team to consecutive Big 8 Championships and Final Four appearances in 2007 and 2008, being named a NSCAA First Team All-American and Big 8 Conference Player of the Year in 2008.
