ARCATA, Calif.- Dominican women's volleyball took on Nebraska-Kearney Thursday evening at Lumberjack Arena, falling to the Lopers 3-0. The black and gold battled through three sets but were unable to slow down the Lopers, who took the match 25-7, 25-8, 25-12.
Three Penguins led Dominican offensively as Kristina Atonio,
Kalaya Phung, and
Trinity Tavita each collected three kills. Setting them up,
 Melena Wong and
Bella Vertudez each added three assists in the match.
The Pengs saw some success from the service line, with Wong collecting two aces while
Amber Dela Cruz added another. Dela Cruz also led Dominican defensively, recording 10 digs.
Alexis Schwartz chipped in five digs while
Cierra Ray added two.
Ashlyn Daugherty recorded Dominican's lone block of the match.
The Penguins only got better as a unit while the match went on, as the squad improved in each set they played. DU will be back in action tomorrow for the second day of the Redwood Coast Volleyball Classic, starting with Jessup at 1 p.m. and following with Cal Poly Humboldt at 5 p.m.
