Penguins finish regular season in style

ORANGE, Calif.- Dominican women's lacrosse (10-3, 1-0) concluded their 2026 regular season in style dropping the Panthers of Chapman University 14-7 Monday afternoon. The black and gold will now have a couple weeks to prepare for the Mountain East Conference tournament which starts April. 30th with the Pengs slated in as the No. 3 seed.

A couple of Southern California Penguins were extra fired up to finish the season back in familiar territory Monday afternoon. The San Diego duo of Morgan Newkirk and Kyra Evans led the black and gold offense as they combined for seven of Dominican's 14 goals.

Newkirk, one of the senior captains, led all scorers with four pushing her season total to 35. Evans was everywhere on the field for the Pengs dishing out a game high three assists to go along with her three goals. Stella Artukovich, another fellow San Diegan, was right behind her SoCal teammates finishing with two assists and a couple of goals.

The Panthers would start the game taking a quick 1-0 lead, but Newkirk put an end to their momentum quickly scoring three straight goals. Dominican's offense would never look back after that. Alayna Cipolla, the Pennsylvania native, gave the black and gold more offensive firepower as she would put three in the back of the net tying Evans for second on the team.

Dominican was stout defensively causing havoc for the Panthers all day. Emma Roy and Elke Moerkeseth each scooped up a game high four ground balls. Olivia Johnson, fellow senior captain along with British Columbia native Claire Murrell finished with a game high three caused turnovers apiece. How about that defense eh?

The Penguins will travel to the No. 2 seed of the MEC Thursday, April 30th time TBD.
